Facial Therapy for Wellbeing and Radiance

A beauty ritual that is more than skin deep.

Our face is the canvas we present to the world. With TAMA we make it the best one possible.

Your inner beauty — revealed and radiant.

Facials are no new commodity.

Ancient Egyptian and Indian civilisations are some of the earliest known to honour extensive beauty regimes. Having evolved over the years, there have been an abundance of variations to the practice of facials all in the desire to enhance natural beauty, wellbeing and graceful aging.

Here, we appreciate that the effect of facial therapy extends beyond the skin’s surface. Somewhere between a therapist’s hands and the dermal layers exists a translation from touch to healing. When given the chance to sink into a deep dream-like state of stillness the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, fostering an innate feeling of ease and security. Naturally, when the body feels this kind of safety it prioritises regeneration and repair — optimising its functions and pouring energy into areas it would otherwise be facing stress.

Facial therapy doesn’t just sculpt and polish, it paves the way to a soothed nervous system and in the process reveals a calm radiance from within.

Signs You Need a Facial

Dry, dull skin lacking moisture

Skin that is visibly dehydrated, cracked and showing signs of depletion is a clear indicator that extra care is needed. The skin may appear crepey, lacklustre and tight and may be prone to redness or inflammation as a result.

Stress and anxiety taking over

An overwhelmed, worried state of mind takes a toll on more than just our mental wellbeing, it shows up in the form of wear and tear on our faces. Tense facial muscles, drooping skin and dark undereye circles begin to set in when we are burnt out, stressed and facing tough challenges in our lives. Unfortunately, our skin is one of the first areas to show signs of wear when we are fatigued, worried and not properly resting.

Congestion and lack of clarity

Breakouts and congested pores are a call for deeper cleansing to remove impurities and dead skin cells. Without a proper cleansing process the skin can quickly become burdened with impurities from daily life, cue factors such as makeup, sunscreen, bacteria, dirt and polluted air. These are just some of the ways our skin is exposed to a build-up of impurities leading to blocked pores and a lack of clarity.

Fluid retention and puffy features

Over time we can experience changes in our facial features. This can be contributed to various lifestyle factors such as hydration, nourishment, fatigue, stressors and commonly a lack of fluid movement, specifically lymphatic fluid. A poor sleep schedule, burdened nervous system or stagnant circulatory system can result in a puffy and rounded appearance. Specialised facial maneuvers help to calm the system and encourage circulation to clear fluid build up and reveal defined face structure.

What is Involved

Typically, a facial is the process of cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising the skin.

At TAMA we take our facials further than this. You can expect specialised facial sculpting manouveurs, lymphatic drainage techniques, gua sha, hand, arm and décolletage massage, steam, chilled mist and even the use of cryotherapy. Our face treatments entail only natural and organic products from some of the finest brands in the skincare realm.

From New Zealand to New York, Canada and back we have sourced a refined selection from around the world including:
Sans [ceuticals], LESSE, Living Libations, Activist Mānuka Skincare and Poets Atelier.

Benefits

Clarity and radiance

Besides the immediate radiance following a facial treatment there are many upsides to scheduling a regular treatment, specifically those that include elements of facial sculpting techniques. Facial massage encourages blood circulation, bringing forth fresh blood and nutrients to the cells and encouraging cellular renewal. This process is vital for achieving the youthful glow of clear skin. By stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage, the skin is enriched with nutrients that support cellular turnover and renewal as well as the production of collagen.

Lustre and suppleness

Gentle exfoliation lifts away dead skin cells, debris and impurities, revealing a luminous complexion. A fresh canvas if you will.
This process renews the surface of the skin and leaves it bright and supple. Followed by nourishing serums to lock in moisture, the skin is left smooth and hydrated. An essential step to decongest and maintain a healthy polished skin surface, especially in the lead up to special events.

Lifted and Sculpted Features

Specialised manouveurs undertaken in facials help to clear excess fluid, reduce puffiness and reveal lifted and defined structure to the face. The manual movement of lymphatic fluid through specific techniques sculpts facial structure, relieves stiff muscles from those that grind teeth or clench their jaw and defines the facial posture. The result of facial massage is lifted, plump skin and soft facial muscles relieved of tension.

Improved Skin Condition

Regular facial treatments have effects lasting far beyond the treatment room. Through deep cleansing and exfoliation, enhanced hydration and stimulation of the facial tissues skin rejuvenation is promoted. The facial process allows for better absorption of products, works to restore and protect the skin barrier and supports the production of collagen. When visiting a professional in the skin realm, a treatment tailored exactly to the skin’s needs can be achieved.

Knowing hands and high quality natural skincare can encourage healing, strengthen the skin and transform the complexion.

How Often

Facial therapy is often misconstrued as a ‘once a year treat’; a perspective that keeps many stuck in the hustle and bustle mindset. In reality, neglecting time to deeply rest and care for our health hinders the body’s resilience to stress and opens the door for burn out, depletion and fatigue to set in — factors that greatly impact the health and appearance of our skin. Lifestyle stressors and a lack of proper rest contribute to impaired immune function, deplete our vitality and leave us feeling less than optimal. By scheduling periodic facial treatments we can counteract this and provide ourselves with time dedicated to restoring balance, honouring not only our internal health but our external beauty as well.

Receiving a facial is a fast lane to a deep state of rest. A complete pause for the mind and body that allows space for the nervous system to relax.

To complement and align with the skin’s natural cycle of cellular turnover, facial treatments are recommended every 4 to 6 weeks, however dependant on certain skin types and conditions this can extend up to 8 weeks.
